Looking for More Great Reads? The book, written by a Soviet scientist living in exile in the US, was decidedly anti-Soviet and pro-American. A very worthwhile read, if a bit slow to read due possibly to translation.

boohazard The title of this book pretty much spells out exactly what you will find inside–a grim, chilling account of Russia’s covert bioweapons program–definitely not your average memoir! Alibek’s memoir is a surprisingly simple and accessible read, even for a lay person like myself.
This was a rather fascinating, if somewhat dry read. Who better to tell the true account of the Soviet Bio-Weapons program than the man who ran it?

Now, in a calm, compelling, alubek convincing voice, he tells the world what he knows. Virulent strains of deadly bacteria were created and harnessed using plasmids and other gene altering methods.
How would these weapons fit into Soviet strategy or contingency planning? AC5 rated it it was amazing. This book was a real eye-opener, and for the bikhazard that it’s all one true account, it succeeds in being quite horrifying.
It’s apparent that he only considered leaving Biopreparat when it appeared bioohazard program was going to be exposed to international condemnation, and he only considered leaving Russia when his own personal safety and job security were threatened. There were certain parts that drew your attention like, when I read about the scientist having a secret island to test their weapons. Much more captivating than I expected.
I remember only one curse word. Both the PDF file and the text file have occasional errors or typos, because scanning and OCR optical character recognition isn’t perfect and I don’t have the time to type a quarter of a book into the computer!
